Maina Njenga House Allegedly Raided by the Police

Former Mungiki leader Maina Njenga alleged that his Nairobi and Laikipia homes were raided yesterday morning by police officers. According to Maina, the police raided his home in Lavington and Karen in Nairobi. They also made their way to Ol Ng’arua and Nyahururu in Laikipia for reasons unknown between 4 am and 6:30 am.

Christopher Wafula, a worker at his Muthaiga home, told the media that he saw armed men arriving in two Land Cruisers around 6:30 am.

“They knocked on the gate and said they were here to conduct a search. I let them in and a few minutes later they left without saying a word after searching the house.”

A similar case was heard by an anonymous worker based in the Ol Ng’arua home of armed men raiding the house.

“They raided the house and ordered us to give details of Mr. Njenga’s whereabouts. But we didn’t know where he was either, so they left without saying a word.”

After being contacted by media houses via phone, Nyahururu Sub-County Police Commander Tom Okoth denied the allegations.

“I am not aware of any raid on Mr. Njenga’s house or the involvement of my officers in the said incidents.”

When Maina Njenga was asked regarding the same, he said that he was informed by his workers about the raid, and they were looking for him. He also stated that there was an attempt to raid his Wanyororo home in Nakuru.

Links to Mukami Kimathi’s Funeral

The former Mungiki leader suspects the raids are intertwined with Mukami Kimathi’s funeral to be held on Saturday 13th May (today) in Njabini, Kinangop.

Mukami is the widow of the late Mau Mau freedom fighter Field Marshal Dedan Kimathi.

“These are plans to stop me from attending. I want to tell whoever is behind the raids that I will be attending the funeral.”

Maina added that on Thursday, he visited Mukami Kimathi’s home and told the family that will attend the funeral with opposition leader Raila Odinga

However, sources within the security services stated that the police were searching for Maina Njenga, over reports that he will disrupt the funeral of the late Field Marshal Dedan Kimathi’s wife.

Mukami Kimathi’s Last Wish

According to Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, Mukami’s last wish was to have her late husband’s remains located and exhumated.

“The last wish of Mama Mukami was that she would like the body of her husband to be exhumed from where it was buried in Kamiti prison and interred together with hers next to each other at their home in Njambini. This was her wish.”

Raila had previously helped her in the search for her husband’s grave.

Mukami Kimathi died in Hospital on 4th May 2023.  She was a mother of 2 sons, 8 daughters, and a freedom fighter. She will be remembered for her efforts in coordinating women in the resistance when it came to resource mobilization, supplying food to Mau Mau fighters, oath administration, and positioning spies.

The freedom fighter has become the symbol of resistance, resilience, and defiance to oppression. She, however, dies without seeing the remains of her husband Dedan Kimathi. This is after spending 60 years in vain, begging the authorities in Kenya and Britain to show her where her lover was buried.

Who Will Attend Mukami Kimathi’s Funeral

Among the dignitaries that are expected today at the funeral include, President William Ruto, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, and Former President Uhuru Kenyatta. The national leaders and senior county leaders are also expected to attend the State funeral today. Keep it C.O.K for more updates on this story.
