All You Need to Know About the Failed Kenya Kwanza and Azimio Bipartisan Talks

Kenya Kwanza has stated that the decision by the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition to stop bipartisan talks is unthoughtful since there were no irreconcilable differences between both sides. According to Kenya Kwanza committee co-chair Geoge Murugara, Azimio did not exhaust all avenues of solving any emerging issues.

“Invoking Clause 37 of the agreement was premature. We have Clause 34, which says if we fail to reach an agreement, then the co-chair of the two sides must sit and discuss the issues. This clause was skipped,

The co-chair, however, said that they will review the issues raised by Azimio and respond to co-chair Otiende Amollo on Thursday. He also added that he will invite the Azimio co-chair on Monday.

This comes after Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition gave Kenya Kwanza Alliance a six-day ultimatum to address their issues for the talks to continue which ends on Tuesday 30th. Kenya Kwanza co-chair said their side is committed to continuing with the talks to find solutions.

“We are ready to resume talks even tomorrow,” he said while pleading with Azimio not to bring up unnecessary issues during negotiations. The demands after demands with ultimatums in between are not in good faith. At the end of the day, it is our hope that we will resume talk,”

These statements were echoed during a press conference at the Parliament building on Thursday 25th.

Azimio’s Side of the Story

In a statement given by Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) party leader Eugine Wamalwa, Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition, stopped the bipartisan talks after Kenya Kwanza refused to show efforts in addressing significant issues put on the table.

These issues include an end in absorbing Azimio affiliate parties, IEBC Server audit, high cost of living, and restructuring and reconstitution of the IEBC.

“Our team wanted some preliminary action on the issues. Unfortunately, the team met resistance to all desired actions.” said the party leader.

Kenya Kwanza is also accused of taking instruction from different bosses

“There was no clear direction from President William Ruto on how to proceed. We will issue a statement on our next course of action on Tuesday if the talks will not have resumed,” Wamalwa concluded.

Do you think both sides will be humble and find a solution before Tuesday?

Keep it C.O.K., to see what the two sides will brew.
