Oga Obinna Selected as Jalango’s Replacement

Comedian Oga Obinna has been selected as Jalang’o’s replacement on Kiss 100’s popular morning show. The announcement was made on Sunday 6th March 2022, making his debut on the show on Monday 7th March 2022. Obinna will now co-host #KameneandObinna with Kamene Goro every morning from 6-10 am.

Obinna replaces fellow comedian Phelix Odiwuor aka Jalang’o, who left the station to pursue his political ambitions. Jalang’o is running for Member of Parliament for Lang’ata Constituency.

Who Is Oga Obinna?

Obinna Ike Igwee, aka Oga Obinna, is a stand-up comedian, musician, emcee, actor, T.V., and radio host and producer. The multi-faceted entertainer is also a Deejay and does event hosting and artist management. He was born on 6th June 1990.

Though Obinna is a father of four, he sarcastically refers to himself as “Father Abraham” as he has 13 other stepchildren.

Where Has Oga Obinna Worked Before?

Obinna has previously worked for Nation Media at Q-FM and Nation FM.

“I’m the only Radio presenter to have done the whole 9 yards, started with late night show, then evening, then midmorning, then drive and now BREAKFAST. I’M CONTENTED” – Obinna

The established comedian also did stand up for the Churchill Show, contributing to his rise to fame. He has also worked for Uber, Golden Tulip, and Deacon as a brand ambassador.

Is Oga Obinna A Nigerian?

Oga Obinna is half Nigerian, half Kenyan. In an interview with Jalang’o, Obinna reveals that his father is a Luo while his mother comes from the Igbo tribe in Nigeria. The comedian grew up partly in Nigeria and later relocated to Maseno, Kisumu County.

Growing up, Obinna did not get along with his father. He revealed that his father would slap him on numerous occasions, making family members terrified of him. Obinna admits that though they aren’t close, they talked things out.

“I can now open open up to him like, ‘listen you were never in my life and we are not friends.’”

Why Did Oga Obinna Leave Nation Radio?

Obinna left Nation FM in 2016 after the station and sister stations Q-FM and Q-TV were closed. The move left him and his colleagues, including Anto Neosoul, Sanaipei Tande, and Ciru Muriuki, jobless. Obinna and Anto Neosoul would later find a new home at K24.

In 2019, Nation Media Group revived Nation FM, bringing back the comedian and Anto Neosoul for their weekend breakfast show. Obinna would later leave the station. Nation FM’s revival also saw Dr. King’ori and Cate Rira join the station. The “Media Maven”, who had previously hosted NTV’s Lit360 Show, left the station in September 2020.

Will Oga Obinna Lose His Job In Case Jalang’o Loses The Langata Elections?

Obinna won’t lose his job if Jalang’o loses his Langata Parliamentary bid. In 2020, Jalang’o revealed that his comeback at Kiss FM would be his last stint on radio. Jalang’o added that he has other ambitions besides radio that he plans on seeing them through.

“This is my final journey on radio because I have started my own things. I plan to have my media and I started Jalang’o TV on YouTube.” – Jalang’o

Jalang’o had even rejected an offer by Radio Maisha, instead choosing to end his radio journey at Kiss FM, where it all began. Therefore, Obinna’s job won’t be at risk if Jalang’o loses.

How Many People Were Interviewed to Replace Jalango?

It is not yet clear how many people were interviewed to replace Jalang’o. However, word is that other top personalities in the Kenyan entertainment industry were also interviewed for the job. Some of those interviewed include 2mbili and Dr. Ofweneke, who congratulated Obinna for his new position.

At C.O.K., we congratulate Oga Obinna for his new gig at Kiss 100 FM.
