Uhuru Admits to Corruption In His Government, Claims 2B Stolen Daily

In a heated interview with Central Kenya`s (Kikuyu) vernacular stations, president Kenyatta addressed some sensitive issues. It was evident Mr Kenyatta wasn’t in the best of moods, and made that evident by calling out some leaders, albeit indirectly.

He first shamed any leader opposing the BBI, especially those who argued on the grounds that its implementation is too expensive. The BBI is projected to cost at least 2 Billion Kenya shillings.

As observed from this snippet from Citizen TV’s Instagram page above, the president went ahead and claimed that leaders complaining about the high cost of BBI are hypocrites, especially since they steal in billions daily.

In the interview, the president also discussed matters Nairobi County leadership, and why he deemed former governor Sonko as surplus to requirements

This didn’t go too well with Sonko. He had initially been one of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s fiercest defenders as can be seen from his t-shirt below.

It was therefore a surprise when Sonko first came out claiming that he was coerced into signing the deed of transfer. The deed led to the establishment of the Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS), headed by Major General Mohammed Badi.

Since then, Sonko has been actively showing his frustration with the deal both on mainstream and social media. This, of course, didn’t go well with the President’s supporters and Sonko found himself fighting for his governorship seat. He was eventually impeached.

Speaking for the first time on the matter, President Kenyatta admitted to having been involved in Sonko’s woes. This was in a broadcast that was aired in different vernacular radio stations on Monday, 18th January.

The President admitted that he did it because of Sonko’s constant arguments with everyone. He added that his leadership style had at some point led to the halting of the county government’s operations. President Kenyatta went ahead to say that he helped Sonko in clinching the Governor’s seat, but instead he was not performing.

He praised the work that NMS has been doing, adding that the government can perform well if leadership is committed to serve. Director General Mohammed Badi has been at loggerheads with Sonko since the inception of the NMS.

Throughout his presidency, Kenyatta has largely steered clear of politics and instead urged leaders to focus on development. His latest remarks therefore come somewhat as a shock. Given that he is months away from leaving office, it seems like things are bound to get spicy.

This follows his polarizing remarks that had most Kenyans, especially Vice President Ruto’s supporters mad. The president stated that perhaps it’s time Kenya’s led by a different tribe, and not just Kikuyus and Kalenjins.

Many people argued his statements were tribalistic, with Ruto going ahead to claim that leaders should promote their development agendas instead of focusing on tribal politics.

While we can`t confirm whether the Vice President was referring to Uhuru Kenyatta, these two leaders have been throwing indirect shade at each other, leaving us wondering when the curtain will finally fall on their clearly stormy relationship.

It will be interesting to see the reactions that follow. Keep it C.O.K for more updates
