Sonko Responds To Uhuru’s Remarks, Claims Kenyatta Worst President In Kenya`s History

Former Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko is perhaps one of the most flamboyant and equally polarising politicians in Kenya.

Sonko is never shy of speaking his mind and has been the subject of many controversies.

It can be argued that perhaps the most difficult period of Sonko’s political career has been during his governorship. His office had been accused of not performing it’s mandate as required. This led to the taking over of the county’s functions by the Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS).

Sonko seemed to support this move initially, as he had signed the deed of transfer himself. However, this wasn’t the case as he found himself disagreeing with the NMS Director General several times.

This led to his impeachment in December last year, something that President Kenyatta admitted to have played a part in.

In a lengthy post on his social media pages, Sonko responded to the President’s remarks. Here’s what we’ve gathered from his social media rant.

Faults

Sonko criticised the President for addressing a section of Kenyans in vernacular while the whole nation was, in his words, yearning for unity.

He denied getting the governorship through President Uhuru Kenyatta’s influence having been validly elected in office.

Mr. Sonko said that in 2017, he inherited a county full of corruption. He claimed that this culture started during former Nairobi Mayor Margaret Kenyatta’s tenure in the 70’s. Margaret Kenyatta was the President’s sister.

The former governor mentioned various changes that he had done in the county in order to improve services. He questioned why Kenyatta would allude to his failure while he himself has overseen the worst administration in Kenya’s history. Ouch!

Sonko revisited the demolitions that occurred in some areas in Eastlands last year. The county purportedly demolished hundreds of homes with an aim of improving Nairobi’s sewerage infrastructure.

He alleged that his removal from office was planned. Sonko said that this was done in a hurry in order to ensure that the demolitions occur, leaving hundreds homeless.

The former governor questioned why the President would do this while mobilizing Senators to stop the impeachment of embattled Kirinyaga Governor Ann Waiguru.

Sonko went ahead to say that despite having borrowed trillions many Kenyans are still unemployed.

Mr. Sonko concluded by urging the President to admit his incompetence and that Kenyans are “angry and hungry”, He added that the outgoing Chief Justice David Maraga was right to say that the President should have been impeached.

Reading through his statement, it was perhaps among the boldest statements Sonko has ever posted. It will be interesting to see how the President and the political class respond to past statements by Sonko and the President. Once political friends turned foes.

Do you think Sonko was out of line? Or are his arguments founded on facts, please let us know in the comment section.

Also, since Sonko has claimed to have transformed to a political blogger (as can be seen in the below screenshot) we welcome his application to join our political team, lol.
