Sonko presented himself at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations yesterday.

The outspoken politician was interrogated over his remarks on the 2017 post election violence. He was also asked to share information regarding allegations he made against the first family.

Sonko’s Woes

The once fierce President Kenyatta supporter, Sonko has been making some damning remarks since he was impeached as governor.

He claimed that corruption in Nairobi started when Uhuru’s sister Margaret Kenyatta took over mayorship back in 1970. Sonko also claimed that Christina Pratt Kenyatta, who is Kenyatta’s other sister, had been reaching out to him. He claims that she had been trying to influence him in the appointment of the deputy governor.

Sonko further claimed that he was part of “the system” in the 2017 general elections to instigate violence. This claim dragged in Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho who was not pleased with his remarks and took him to court.

Speaking at the Sagana State Lodge, President Kenyatta also commented on Sonko at a meeting with Central Kenya Youth Leadership. Kenyatta said that he had offered to send Sonko someone to assist him with the county affairs, something Sonko didn’t want.

“I tried to help my friend the other day, ati yeye ni Kijana, I told him if you need help, I will bring someone told help you, wewe kazi yako ni kuvaa goggles and then telling people, oh, look at the job I’m doing,” he said.

Sonko retaliated to the president’s remarks, boldly claiming that he used to smoke bhang with the president. This isn’t the first time the president and former governor have been exchanging words. Barely a week ago Sonko asserted the president is the worst of all Kenyan presidents

Do you think the charges leveled against Sonko are justified? Could this be a political witch hunt?
