Leading telco Safaricom has announced that they will be permanently increasing bandwidth allocations for all their Home Fibre packages. This essentially means that your Safaricom Home Fibre speeds are about to get much faster.
Currently, Safaricom offers 4 Home Fiber packages, namely Bronze, Silver, Gold and Diamond.
The Changes
In the new adjustments, all packages will get their bandwidth allocations increased. Prices for the Bronze and Silver packages remain unchanged. However, those for the Gold and Diamond packages are slightly increased by Ksh. 300 and Ksh. 500 respectively.
Below is a table showing the changes.
Bronze | Silver | Gold | Diamond | |
Old Speeds | 5 Mbps | 10 Mbps | 20 Mbps | 40 Mbps |
Old Price | KES 2,900 | KES 3,999 | KES 5,699 | KES 11,499 |
New Speeds | 8 Mbps | 20 Mbps | 40 Mbps | 100 Mbps |
New Price | KES 2,900 | KES 3,999 | KES 5.999 | KES 11,999 |
Secure Net | At Extra Fee | At Extra Fee | Included | Included |
Secure Net is a set of extra security features that help to keep Home Fibre customers safe online.
From the table one can see the slight price increase is justified, especially on the Diamond package which now gets 100 Mbps.
Have Safaricom Home Fibre Speeds Reduced?
In 2020, Safaricom doubled their Home Fibre speeds to support online learning and work from home initiatives. This was following curfew, lockdown and stay at home orders by the Government in response to rising Covid-19 cases.
The speeds were then silently returned to normal, leaving many missing the improved experience surfing on the network.
Many, especially current Home Fiber customers, will welcome this new move from Safaricom. The Bronze package is currently the most popular, presumably for its price. It will be even more enticing to users with the boost to 8 Mbps.
The announcement was made through their social media pages and the new adjustments take effect on 1st March 2021.
Are you a current Home Fibre subscriber? How is your experience with the service? If not connected, do the new adjustments make you look forward to getting connected?
