Man Who Escaped Kiambu Family Murder Speaks Out

Two weeks ago Kenyans were shocked by the news of the killing of 5 people at a home in Kiambaa, Kiambu County. The victims were Nicholas Njoroge, his wife Anne Wanjiku, their son, nephew, and James Kinyanjui, a farmhand who worked for the family.

It was later established that the main suspect of the heinous act was a 22 year old Lawrence Njoroge Warunge.

Lawrence confessed to committing the heinous act and was inspired by Villanelle, a character from the TV series ‘Killing Eve’.

What seems hard to understand is how a University student would even think of and commit such an act, especially to his own family.

Man Who Escaped

Details are now emerging of a man who narrowly escaped the same fate. The man worked for Lawrence Warunge’s dad and made the revelations on Citizen TV.

Coming home from a nightclub he found his friend, James Kinyanjui’s (the slain farmhand)  body, lying in a pool of blood. While still trying to make sense of what he had met, he saw the suspect and ran for his dear life. He could hear his footsteps following him as he ran.

Fortunately, he managed to hide himself in a neighbour’s farm. It is while hiding that he contacted his employer, Lawrence’s uncle, who got in touch with the police.

The suspect and his girlfriend, Sarah Muthoni, are being held in custody as detectives continue with investigations. He is said to have confided in her about the treatment he was getting at home.

The family members were laid to rest at an emotional send off on Saturday, 16th January. The remaining family members appear to have no sympathy for Mr. Warunge, and claim that he needs to rot in jail for his heinous acts!
