Kisii Deputy Governor’s Car Torched

Kisii Deputy Governor Joash Maangi’s car was on Wednesday, 18th burnt down by angry boda boda operators. This was after he was involved in a fatal car accident that killed a boda boda operator.

The rider was carrying his 8-year-old son, who unfortunately also passed on in the accident. However, the Deputy Governor together with his driver Stanley Gitonga and security personnel escaped unhurt.

Maangi said that while driving to Nairobi, the boda boda operator suddenly appeared from a bushy path and rode towards his car.

“It was a head on collision accident,”

he stated.

His statement was corroborated by the Narok South Sub County Police Commander Chebe Kiambere.

“The vehicle collided with a boda-boda (registration number KMEW 733J) whose rider was carrying his 8-year-old son,

said Kiambere.

However, the deputy governor had left the scene of the accident by the time the angry boda boda operators blocked the road. They later lit the car on fire.

The accident occured at around 6:30 pm at Tegero section of the Narok-Bomet road. Following the incident, the bodies of the deceased were moved to the Narok County Referral Hospital.

Maangi previously spent a night in police custody after claims emerged that he was mobilising youth to disrupt the late Simeon Nyachae’s burial on Monday.
