The Kenyan Hip Hop Industry has experienced massive growth over the past couple of years, and one Khaligraph Jones is responsible for most of it. Although not Eminem or Jay Z, the Kenyan born rapper is a lyrical genius with a masterful flow. So, who is Khaligraph Jones?

Khaligraph Jones is an award-winning Kenyan rapper with a belt of hit songs under his name. Internationally, the Kenyan rapper has won several awards including Afrimma (Annual African Muzik Magazine Awards) and the Nigerian-based SoundCity MVP Awards.

1. Khaligraph Once Buried Himself On Stage

In December 2017, Khaligraph made headlines for his unusual entrance to the Jameson concert. As part of his performance, the talented rapper was ferried to the stage on a white casket, his argument being that he came to murder the show.

The move caused shockwaves in Kenya, the general consensus being that it was wrong to pull such a stunt.

When quizzed in a local interview about his decision to use a casket, Khaligraph was unapologetic, claiming his role as a creative is to excite his fans who pay top dollar to see him perform.

2. Khaligraph Jones Is A Jailbird  

After failing to raise bail money, Khaligraph was jailed for over a month due to theft allegations. He however claims that he wasn’t associated with any theft and that it was a situation of being at the wrong place at the wrong time. 

The jail term came long before he rose to fame.The buff Kenyan rapper claims to have gotten into a lot of trouble during his days as a bouncer due to working odd hours.

3. Khaligraph Loves Controversy

Besides his coffin antiques, Khaligraph has also made headlines for his rap style. Many believe that the Kenyan rapper excessively exaggerates his accent, with most advising him to be his true self. According to Khaligraph, however, his accent is part of who he is and won’t change it for the world.

There was also a bleaching incident that saw Khaligraph receive some stick, especially from discontented fans who believed that he was trying too much. 

However, the rapper`s most recent controversy came from his decision to put on clergy wear (bishops attire) in his song with Japesa titled Nyakalaga.

4. Khaligraph Loves his Beef

Many would argue that rappers need a bit of attitude to thrive in the highly competitive industry. And it’s true, Khaligraph Jones has made a habit of calling out several artists. In early 2020, Khaligraph made headlines when he dissed Nigerian rapper Blaqbonez

The beef, however, wasn’t too spicy as both rappers calmed down, with the Nigerian admitting that Khaligraph is hugely talented.

On the local scene, Khaligraph has called out several rap artists. The most common victim is Octopizzo, with there no love lost between the two local acts. 

In August 2020, Khaligraph fired shots at Octopizzo, claiming the rapper buys views to push his YouTube videos. Khaligraph’s bold claims resulted in back and forth disses from the two.

On the continental scene, Khaligraph has called out several acts, including Burna Boy and Mafikizolo.

5. Khaligraph Shot A Budget Video in the US  

After traveling to the US to claim one of his awards, Khaligraph decided to shoot his leave me alone video. The video did pretty well in the industry and left many wondering the exact cost of shooting in the states.

The rapper recently revealed that he shot the video without having to break the bank. In the interview, Khaligraph revealed that shooting the entire video cost him under $800.
