Joseph Kinuthia graced our screens as Omosh Kizangila on Tahidi High and entertained us with laughter. Many would then imagine that due to his celebrity status he may be living a lavish lifestyle of some sort.
However, as he recently revealed in an interview with Hiram Maina “Kamuhunjia”, this wasn’t exactly the case.
What Did Omosh Reveal About His Problems?
In the video, Hiram is greeted by Omosh who comes out from his apartment. They share a light moment with Omosh briefly sharing his joy seeing the young entertainer’s car. He does this theatrically, doing what he knows best.
In the interview, Omosh revealed that life has been tough for him since Tahidi High was discontinued last year. The show was his main earner and it’s cancellation put him in financial distress.
Besides acting, he visited schools as a motivational speaker. This would earn him an extra coin to cater for his expenses. However, the closure of schools due to Covid-19 would deny him that extra income and render him jobless.
The comedian shared that he has 2 wives. One is Tahidi High co-actor Mrs. Ngatia with whom they are blessed with 3 children. The other is Shanty Mumbi, who is a daughter of popular Kikuyu comedian Githingithia, whom they’re blessed with 2 kids.
Omosh said that he had not been able to pay rent for the whole of 2020 and the first 2 months of this year. His landlord was however kind enough to let him stay at the house nonetheless. Perhaps until such a time when he would be able to pay.
A kind gesture we must say.
The lack of a source of income meant that Omosh had to rely on friends and family for support. This, he says, took a mental toll on him. The uncertainty of what and where the family’s next meal would come from would put him in distress.
Looking at his kids, he says, would agonize him, as they would still wear old clothes. However, he says that they never missed a meal any day. He also adds that his children have been able to go to school from help by well wishers. This he attributes this only to God’s grace.
The emotional Omosh says he wasn’t okay. He would randomly breakdown when taking a walk. He narrated this with tears running down his face.
Omosh appealed to well wishers to come to his rescue and give him a job. What was most touching was him saying he would not mind a job paying him Ksh. 200 a day. He said that a job would give him a place to get started in getting financially stable.
Views From Netizens
As expected, the touching story reached many Kenyans who took to social media to share their views.
Many empathised with Omosh’s story.
Only people who've never hit rock bottom can laugh at Omosh. Trust me, hii life haina formula. Leo yeye, kesho wewe. Just be grateful with what you have and show empathy for those who are down

Very true. Just when you think you have it all figured out then Boom! You are on last saving. People are struggling with stuff you have zero idea about, until you walk in their shoes, don’t condemn anyone, instead be kind ama unyamaze

Others wondered how the longtime actor would still lead a life of struggle. Some say his predicament is a product of his choices.
On the issue concerning Omosh, I think it is not the first case of actors, musicians, athletes etc thinking we owe them something when they fail to manage their own finances. This country owes you nothing. Just learn to manage finances in your good days. My pesa nane thoughts.

We sympathise, my sister. You won't wish his current predicaments even on your worst enemy. Nevertheless, it's important to reflect on our choices in our lives and the reverberating consequences. OMOSH drinks too much.

Some were just…. Well… brutal.
Omosh Hana capacity ya Ku take care of money or property. People like these are a liability to the society. They epitomises the height of irresponsibility in men gender. People like these should be left alone to struggle in life because giving them money only make them WORSE.

Still, others emphasized on the need for investing and setting a coin aside for a rainy day.
Sometimes you fail even after trying so hard. Financial management should be taught right from baby class. It slaps different when you have children and are out of employment age. He still will stand.
