Former Cabinet Minister Simeon Nyachae Dead

The family of Former Minister Simeon Nyachae has announced the passing on of their patriarch. Led by his eldest son Charles Nyachae, they confirmed that he died after a fairly long illness.

The announcement was made at the Nairobi Hospital where Nyachae has been receiving treatment. Charles Nyachae thanked the hospital’s management for taking care of his father while was receiving treatment. He also revealed that together with friends and extended family, President Kenyatta had sent his message of condolences.

Brief History Of Nyachae

The Moi era Minister was born in 1932. He was a son to the well known colonial chief Musa Nyandusi. 

This connection helped in making him among the first African administrators trained by the colonial government.

Nyachae attended both Torquay College and Churchill College in the UK, back in the 1950’s.

Simeon Nyachae’s Achievements

After Kenya’s independence, Nyachae became a District Officer in Machakos District. He later rose to the position of Provincial Commissioner from 1963 to 1979.

Nyachae would then become Moi’s the Head of Civil Service and the Secretary to the Cabinet.

He later ran for the Nyaribari Chache Parliamentary seat in the 1992 general elections. Being a KANU MP and a good friend to late President Moi, he got to head both the Agriculture and Finance ministries.

In the 2002 general elections he vied for the Presidential seat under Ford-People party. He came in 3rd garnering over 300,000 votes. President Mwai KIbaki would then include him in his cabinet as the energy minister, later heading the roads ministry.

Simeon Nyachae Lows

Nyachae quit active politics after the 2007 general elections when he lost the Nyaribari Chache parliamentary seat.

He was, unfortunately, named in the Waki Report as one of the planners of the 2007-2008 post election violence.

The fallen politician was a well known personality in the Gusii region with investments in the manufacturing, banking, agriculture and construction sectors. His investments span various counties in Kenya.

Simeon Nyachae died at the age of 88 years. At Call Out Kenya, we offer our condolences to the friends and family of the fallen politician. May he rest in eternal peace.
